Luxury 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment
Eixample is the biggest barrio or district in the city which was built in the second half of the nineteenth century by an urban planner who chose to use a grid pattern for this new ‘extension’ neighbourhood. Many of the wealthiest Barcelonians at the time commissioned architects to build them modernist homes in this new and fashionable area. Still today, it is a top choice for modern buildings and is a favourite with the middle and upper classes.
You will find some of the finest restaurants and bars in this area, such as ‘Cachitos’ which serves fantastic seafood dishes. There is also a strong café culture in this quiet and upmarket area and other treats like organic bakeries, patisseries and many boutique shops. Stroll through the flower market on Carrer d’Arago (open Monday – Saturday) or along Enrique Granados Street which is very pretty and has many lovely cafes and restaurants before heading to Passeig de Gracia on the North side of the area with the masterpieces of the city’s most famous resident, Gaudi. The Casa Batlló has a green, ornate outside, with a mosaic design to represent the style of a dragon’s scales (Saint George is the patron saint of Catalonia), and the Casa Mila which also has beautifully decorated windows and balconies. These are lit up spectacularly in the evenings.
This Art Noveau district has modernist touches all around if you keep an eye out for them, such as the street lamps, doorways and balconies. Barcelona’s largest gay community is also at home here in ‘Gayxample’ between Enrique Granados and Comte d'Urgell. Parc de Joan Miró is a nice green space for a walk with the kids or a romantic stroll with your partner in the landscaped gardens.

Along with the plush historic apartments, some parts of the Eixample were known to be influenced by ‘Modernista‘ architects. One particular architect and one who was specifically responsible for the structural design in this apartment is Ildefons Cerdà, who considered sunlight and ventilation in the design of his characteristic octagonal buildings.
